The MCE Army!

Moreton City Excelsior’s inspiring “army” of fans can be our “twelfth man” against Campbelltown City in Tuesday’s big Australia Cup tie at Wolter Park. Coach Cameron Millar said:

“You will all play a part on Tuesday night,” in the glitz and glamour of our Round of 32 clash. Kick-off 7pm. He thanked everyone for their support on the journey so far, saying:

“The MCE Army inspires players to deliver performances that reflect our shared passion for our club.

“The team is driven by a strong motivation to deliver a performance our club can be proud of, inspires our juniors and demonstrates our team capabilities on the national stage.”

Striker Marquez Walters agreed, adding: “We are family based, a club that depends on all the energy they (supporters) bring … the 12th man. “I really believe it would be a great night if everyone came down and supported us.”

MCE has won seven successive NPL Qld matches and booked a place in the state-level Kappa Cup Final – but Tuesday is a national stage in the national spotlight.

“The competition provides an excellent platform to raise the profile of our players as well as our newly-established club,” Cameron said.

“We have a number of ambitious young players who I believe, given the chance to work in a full-time professional environment, have the potential to excel at the next level.

“Last years’ experience in the Round of 32 against interstate opposition was a valuable learning opportunity for us. “Those lessons have strengthened our position and helped our preparation for this year's challenge.

“Campbelltown City is a powerhouse in the NPL SA and has a strong track record in the National Rounds of the Australia Cup.  "We can’t wait to compete against them.”

This will be Moreton Bay United/Moreton City Excelsior's fourth match in the national rounds of 32 or higher. All have been at Wolter Park.

MCE, as Moreton Bay United, first reached the Round of 32 in 2017, with coach Cameron and Declan Smith in the line-up, beating Broadmeadow Magic 4-2 in a thriller before bowing out in the Round of 16 to Gold Coast City, now Gold Coast United.

Last year, again as MBU, we went down 3-0 against Victorian powerhouse Heidelberg in the Round of 32.

All Australia Cup 2024 Final Rounds matches will be streamed live and free on 10 Play, thanks to the Football Australia’s Broadcast Partner, 10 Paramount.
